Red lentil dal
Creamy Indian red lentil dal with spices and tomato.

Ingredients
- 250 g red lentils
- 1 onion
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 piece of fresh ginger of 2 cm
- 1 ripe tomato
- 40 g coconut or olive oil
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 700 g water
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro to serve
Step-by-step
Choose your robot:
- Put the onion, garlic and ginger in the mixing bowl and chop 4 sec/speed 5.
- Add the oil and saute 7 min/Varoma/spoon speed.
- Add the chopped tomato and all the spices. Saute 3 min/Varoma/spoon speed.
- Add the washed red lentils, the water and the salt.
- Set 18 min/100C/reverse/spoon speed.
- Blend 20 sec/speed 4 for a creamier dal, leaving some texture.
- Serve with chopped fresh cilantro on top.
Tips
- Red lentils break down fast, they do not need soaking.
- Serve with basmati rice or naan bread.
- A dash of lime juice at the end adds freshness.
