Brazilian Rice (Arroz Brasileiro)

Ingredients

  • 300 g long-grain rice
  • 1 small onion
  • 3 garlic cloves
  • 600 ml hot water
  • 30 g oil
  • 1 bay leaf
  • Salt to taste

Step-by-step

Choose your robot:
  1. Put the onion and garlic in the mixing bowl and chop 4 sec/speed 5.
  2. Add the oil and saute 5 min/Varoma/spoon speed.
  3. Add the rice and toss 3 min/Varoma/reverse/spoon speed.
  4. Add the hot water, bay leaf and salt.
  5. Place the basket instead of the measuring cup and set 14 min/100°C/reverse/spoon speed.
  6. Check the rice is done; if needed, add 3 min/100°C/reverse/spoon speed.
  7. Let rest 5 minutes covered, remove the bay leaf and fluff with a fork.

Tips

  • Tossing the rice before boiling keeps it looser.
  • Use hot water so you do not interrupt the cooking.
  • Serve alongside feijoada or stroganoff.
