Molcajete Red Salsa

Spicy salsa of roasted tomato and arbol chile, with a smoky flavor.

Ingredients

  • 500 g of ripe tomato
  • 4 dried arbol chiles
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/4 white onion
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of chopped cilantro (optional)

Step-by-step

Choose your robot:
  1. Put the halved tomatoes, the onion and the garlic in the mixing bowl with 100 g of water. Program 10 min/100°C/speed 1.
  2. Separately toast the arbol chiles dry for a few seconds in a pan, until they become aromatic.
  3. Add the toasted chiles and the salt to the mixing bowl.
  4. Blend 40 sec/speed 7 until you get a salsa with a light texture.
  5. Taste and adjust the spiciness and the salt.
  6. Serve with chopped cilantro to taste.

Tips

  • For more spiciness, leave the seeds of the chiles.
  • Roasting the tomatoes directly over the fire intensifies the smoky flavor.
