Homemade Tequenos
Crispy dough fingers filled with cheese, the king of Venezuelan parties.
Vegetarian
Ingredients
- 300 g of wheat flour
- 1 egg
- 50 g of butter
- 100 g of cold water
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 400 g of hard white cheese, llanero type
- Plenty of oil for frying
Step-by-step
Choose your robot:
- Put the flour, egg, butter, sugar and salt in the mixing bowl.
- Add the cold water and knead 2 min/dough speed until a smooth dough forms.
- Wrap the dough and let it rest 20 minutes in the fridge.
- Cut the cheese into sticks 1 cm thick and 8 cm long.
- Roll out the dough thinly and cut it into strips 2 cm wide.
- Wrap each cheese stick in a spiral with the dough strip, covering it completely.
- Fry the tequenos in hot oil at 180 degrees for 3 minutes until golden and drain on paper.
Tips
- Seal the ends well so the cheese does not escape when frying.
- Use hard, salty cheese that withstands the heat without melting entirely.
- You can freeze them raw and fry them directly when you need them.
