Colombian corn arepas
Traditional corn dough arepas, golden outside and soft inside.

Ingredients
- 300 g precooked corn flour (masarepa)
- 450 g warm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 20 g butter (optional, for spreading)
Step-by-step
Choose your robot:
- Pour the warm water, salt and oil into the mixing bowl and mix 10 sec/speed 3.
- Add the precooked corn flour and mix 20 sec/speed 4.
- Knead 1 min/dough mode until you get a soft, homogeneous dough.
- Let the dough rest 5 minutes inside the covered mixing bowl.
- Form balls with damp hands and flatten into discs 1 cm thick.
- Heat a griddle or pan over medium heat and cook the arepas 5 minutes on each side until golden.
- Spread with butter and serve hot.
Tips
- If the dough cracks when shaping, add a little more warm water.
- Keep your hands damp so the dough does not stick.
- They are delicious stuffed with cheese or egg.
