Ingredients

  • 300 g precooked corn flour (masarepa)
  • 450 g warm water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 20 g butter (optional, for spreading)

Step-by-step

Choose your robot:
  1. Pour the warm water, salt and oil into the mixing bowl and mix 10 sec/speed 3.
  2. Add the precooked corn flour and mix 20 sec/speed 4.
  3. Knead 1 min/dough mode until you get a soft, homogeneous dough.
  4. Let the dough rest 5 minutes inside the covered mixing bowl.
  5. Form balls with damp hands and flatten into discs 1 cm thick.
  6. Heat a griddle or pan over medium heat and cook the arepas 5 minutes on each side until golden.
  7. Spread with butter and serve hot.

Tips

  • If the dough cracks when shaping, add a little more warm water.
  • Keep your hands damp so the dough does not stick.
  • They are delicious stuffed with cheese or egg.
