Ingredients

  • 250 g of flour
  • 250 g of sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 150 ml of sunflower oil
  • 200 ml of buttermilk (milk with lemon)
  • 20 g of cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon of baking soda
  • Red gel food coloring
  • 300 g of cream cheese
  • 100 g of butter
  • 150 g of icing sugar
  • 1 pinch of salt

Step-by-step

Choose your robot:
  1. Preheat the oven to 175C.
  2. Add the eggs, the sugar and the oil and beat 2 min/speed 4.
  3. Add the buttermilk and the red food coloring and mix 30 sec/speed 3.
  4. Add the flour, the cocoa, the baking soda and the salt and mix 25 sec/speed 3.
  5. Divide the batter into two lined round molds.
  6. Bake 30 min at 175C and check with a toothpick.
  7. For the frosting beat the cream cheese, the butter and the icing sugar 40 sec/speed 4.
  8. Let the sponges cool and fill them with frosting.
  9. Cover the whole cake and refrigerate 1 hour before serving.

Tips

  • Gel coloring tints better than liquid.
  • Buttermilk is made by adding a tablespoon of lemon to the milk.
  • Keep it cold because of the cheese frosting.
